Natural Vaccine Detox for Dogs
After a vaccination, a gentle detox can help support your dog’s immune system, aid the elimination of toxins, and keep them feeling like themselves again. This is the approach I use with the sighthounds in my care, shared here from experience rather than as veterinary advice. Always check with your own vet before changing your dog’s diet or routine.
Best practices for a vaccine detox
Before reaching for any blend, the basics do most of the work. These four habits give the body the best chance to clear and recover.
- Hydration — fresh, filtered water to help flush toxins through.
- Whole-food diet — skip processed kibble in favour of fresh, nutrient-rich food.
- Exercise — movement stimulates lymphatic drainage, so keep them active.
- Less chemical exposure — limit harsh flea treatments and household cleaners.
A simple liver-support detox blend
The liver does the heavy lifting when it comes to clearing toxins, so this blend is built around supporting it. Match the quantities to your dog’s weight.
10 to 20kg dogs
- 1 tsp milk thistle powder
- 1 tsp dandelion root powder
- ½ tsp burdock root powder
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- A pinch of black pepper (helps the body absorb turmeric)
- 1 tsp organic coconut oil (optional, aids absorption)
21 to 30kg dogs
- 1.5 tsp milk thistle powder
- 1.5 tsp dandelion root powder
- ¾ tsp burdock root powder
- ¾ tsp turmeric powder
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1.5 tsp organic coconut oil (optional)
31 to 40kg dogs
- 2 tsp milk thistle powder
- 2 tsp dandelion root powder
- 1 tsp burdock root powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- A pinch of black pepper
- 2 tsp organic coconut oil (optional)
How to use it
Mix the ingredients into your dog’s food once daily for 7 to 14 days after vaccination. For ongoing support, drop back to 2 to 3 times a week.
This blend works best alongside the basics above, not instead of them. Sighthounds in particular have lean frames and sensitive systems, so go gently, watch how your dog responds, and speak to your vet if anything seems off.
